National Center for Families Learning

NCFL is an organization creating educational and economic opportunities for the most at-risk children and parents in the United States.

The Challenge

To craft a usable, mobile-responsive and visually stimulating design that elevates and expands NCFL’s story while showcasing their re-brand and the numerous news, websites, and initiatives they are pioneering.

To improve the sitemap and organize navigation, Call-to-Actions, and crucial information better – such as free learning resources for families, learning solutions for professionals,  news, and blogs.

How the website was branded

The website was previously redesigned in 2014, so the design needed stylistic refreshment.
Moreover, due to the multiplied amount of resources and data, users had difficulty searching the website. CTAs to explore the helpful resources and join and support the community was low, so the client wanted to redesign the story around them.
A showcase of NCFL’s wide presence and reliability as a partner needed a boost on the website.

Some of the UX issues we found

Low-contrast text

Low contrast for the header links and text over images within a slideshow on the homepage. Negative effects on legibility, user confidence, accessibility and cognitive strain.

Information not structured well

Many important pages were hard to find or discover, second-level navigation was confusing, many links weren’t in relevant areas.
